japes
Red and Orange Heads are the same thing, many just called them Red Heads as it falsely signifies them being of better quality or colour. Interestingly though, cichlidae.com has them as sp. 'red head', but I'll stick to Weidner until they're properly and scientifically classified. Impossible to tell variant with flash, but if they were sold to you as the Rio Araguaia variant I'd go with that.
Eric A
Just curious Ryan, why is it hard to tell with flash? What makes it different or the same?
japes
Just curious Ryan, why is it hard to tell with flash? What makes it different or the same? Lights up and accentuates colours in the Araguaia variant that aren't naturally visible to the naked eye. These fish were sold as Araguaia and I'd say that's probably what they are, but with the flash photography it looks like they've got an orange gradient running along the operculum towards the gills.
