briztoon
Hey raff, It would be alot easier for you to read this thread, Andinoacara Rivulatus, rather than have me go off on another rant about the whole rivulatus thing.
ohhsweetness
thanks guys yea his tail is getting so red is a fluro orangey red its awesome hey is it only the aussie who call it a rivulatus ?? i dont see many americans using the term rivulatus they say green terror ....( imo rivulatus sounds way better then green terror gives it a more fancy cool name lol )
japes
Australians all too commonly mislabel what was properly known as 'Aequidens' sp. "Gold Saum" (now Andinoacara aequinoctalis) as "Rivulatus", which is shorted common name for the old classification of a rare species in the hobby, the 'Aequidens' rivulatus, known to many as the true "Green Terror". In short, "Green Terror" is nothing more than an all too widespread common name. Not many people get it right. This thread: viewtopic.php?f=12&t=20116 has all the information you should need. Cliff notes: - As far as I and many others are aware, we do not have Andinoacara rivulatus in Australia, they're rare even in the states. - "Saums" (Andinoacara aequinoctalis - and formerly 'Aequidens' sp. "Gold/White Saum") are commonly labelled as "Green Terrors" and are a perfect example of why common names cause problems and should only be used as a last resort in conversation, Latin nomenclature really isn't that difficult. - Anything labelled as a 'Rivulatus' in stores, whether it's as a species or common name, is mislabled, and is no different to calling a Neon Tetra a Cardinal Tetra, for example. In regards to your fish and photos, nice shots, and I agree that it's a beautiful fish - good quality uniform scale patterning, very healthy in appearance and looks quite confident. Looks like he's in a nice setup as well. Also good to see you back on the forums oohsweetness.

noyakfat
Hi there, So how big is this guy now? I also got a little male a couple of weeks ago and I am interested in the growth rate. I know it is dependant on feeding and water quality etc etc, but I'd appreciate an estimate of his current size.

noyakfat
thanks mate, yeah mine is in an 8 x 2 x 2 with a few other young-uns.... convict, JD, festae and polleni, 2 x BN's and 7x big fat tiger barbs as dithers. I'm trying to grow them up a bit before I let my female jag into the picture so i can shut down my 6ft. She is prob getting close to 20cm overall length, so the others need to grow a bit before I try the introduction. thanks again.

ohhsweetness
americans will try and blend in to there surrondings so if yu have dark gravel they will go dark it brings out there colours better as well my gravel is from darra its like 1mm i think great stuff ther white stuff in the rocks was put in my my little niece when i wasnt looking ....she wanted me to have some of "her" rocks lol ... but i would love to go smaller though i have taken him out of his tank and put him in another one so she can get use to the tank and make her own territory because he just kept chasing/nipping her .... she has got blue all the way through her fins she is just got amazing colour hopefully tonight or tomoz she will become dark with out him in the tank and i hope to show you her colours
willy
yeah that is very true.. i would love to change to a darker substrate but its a little expensive the stuff i like.. its like $10 for 1kg or something? but im sure i could find something cheaper? lol, gotta love little kids.. really, mine used to chase the female around to and grab hold of her fin for abit then let go and shake like hell.. but he stopped doing that pretty quickly cos she was smaller and could hide away from him.. really, cant wait to see the colours of her when she is fully coloured up for mating.. good luck with it mate, i hope she goes dark soon
