brockssracer
Albino's in any animal have red eyes including humans. I would just guess it is a white one and thats it...BUT in saying that im not a discus expert.
david1991
it could be just a white discus or it could have just no pigment in the skin but not albino

brockssracer
A true albino has pink eyes because, since there is no pigment in the iris, all you see is the blood is the eye.
liljohn_83
A true albino has pink eyes because, since there is no pigment in the iris, all you see is the blood is the eye. so albino by definition is white with red eyes or just red eyes ? :snide:
clayton31
think white with red eyes ...couse the other 6 discus i have got red eyes ...holy crap me confused now
brockssracer
white with red eyes, well its not actually white, there is just a lack pf pigmentation in the skin as well. If you look at budgies, mice, rats and other common albinos they will always be white with red eyes, you do get white ones with black eyes but they are not classified as albino. In cockatiels the first albinos where a real pale yellow but they had red eyes and it wasnt until the last 5-10 years that they have been able to get the white coming out in them. I'm still yet to see a pure white cockatiel with red eyes not that I have been looking to hard.
brockssracer
albino bristlenose are another good example of not being white, they do have red eyes but they lack the pigmentation of the common one. Prob the easiest example of albinos being that they are fish as well. If you have 5 others with red eyes they are albino, the 6th one with black eyes is just a white one and nothing more. frinkie
wow. we have a discus at work that looks IDENTICAL to that one. umm, its not an albino, as mentioned above, true full albinos have the "red" eye's, its not full leucistic either as there is some blue in it. Nice looking fish though

frinkie
If there is no other colouration except the white, you could argue its leucistic, but without another leucistic one to breed it with and observe the phenotype of the fry, it really is just a guess. crazyD
Sorry to butt in guys but have to ask...what is leucistic? I thought there was only 3 true different types of discus. Symphysodon, S. aequifasciatus, and S. haraldi...? this one being S. haraldi. they can have no colour at all but wont be a alpha animal. Is the same type as snakeskin but with no colour.? frinkie
ahh the exciting world of genetics. any animal can be leucistic, leusicim is basicly where the animal has no pigmentation except for the eyes (so they eyes are normal coloured). I guess you could say its a form of partial albinism, there are a few different kinds of partial albinism as there is more than one gene that decides wether an animal will be an albino or not - and sometimes they dont all agree, which is when u get partial albinism. fish with this trait are usually worth a small fortune, a fellow was selling a few leucistic barra for around 1K each. and a different guy was selling i think it was a leucistic pig nose turtle. 30K.
