150 W metal halide? 2ft?

Recommended Posts

Hi, im setting up my new 2ft marine tank, and am looking at lighting options.

is 1 x 150W metal halide light enough?

or would 2 be better?

Ive never used metal halides and i dont know what theyre like, also i dont want the light heating the tank to much.

also does anyone have any ideas for a DIY stand for a square MH?

or 2 round ones?

cheers, nick :)

easy answer - metal halides , are yesterday's tech,  would not bother with them at all - A good quality LED plant light - a Fluval or a Kessil  or one of the myriad of other similar plant LED lights are a better choice .

Halides are hot running , power hungry , and the bulbs last just over a year before they lose enough their PAR to need to be replaced . not really something to get enthusiastic about .

sorry forgot it was marine - substitute plant led for marine led , the rest still applies  .

2 x Kessil  A160 WE tuna blue would be my choice  or a Single A360 w Tuna blue or whatever replaces it
