Finally going to nip it in the bud with discounted prices on ADA so decided on ADA.

Problem is a supplier here on the Gold Coast does not have Power Sand from ADA. Is it possible to use the UpAqua Power sand in replacement for the bottom of the tank or is it just best to not bother with Power Sand?

Amazonia II should do the trick was thinking 2 bags for a 3 footer by 18 (or 20)...One bag of the power sand and one bag of powder? Or 3 bags of Amazonia II?

Benefits of Powder ontop of the ADA amazonia if growing hairgrass and other types? Is it worth getting?

Thanks guys.

PS the look i am going to go for is the likes of these;

especially the last one.

PS where can I find those style of rocks IN BRISBANE OR GOLD COAST (FISHCHICKS)???

How much would I be looking at for them for a 3 footer?

I am also planning on buying the same substrate as you, However the power sand is not a must have, it will help plant growth but not really worth the money in my opinion.

also 3 bags wont allow much depth for planting, I would go at least 5. (5cm at front leading upto 10cm or so at back.)

Your plants will grow perfectly fine with just the amazonia ada soil. (including hairgrass etc.)

P.S the links are not working for me.

I have been informed that many people regret getting the powder to put ontop of the ADA AMAZONIA II. Are you going to purchase the powder?

Power Sand seems to have a massive advantage over normal ADA substrate throughout so I might get it and comment on it once it is in...Might just sell some discus and pay for it that way hahahaha. Seems to aid in the longer lasting of the ADA and provide better nutrients for the plants with longer roots.

3 9L bags of ADA AMAZONIA plus 9kg of both powder and the power sand to put at top and bottom respectively should hopefully be enough I am considering. Maybe 4 Bags tops??

I might need 4 due to the scape layout i am doing is this correct or should get away with 3 or need 5? Most have said 3 plus the other stuff. so Unsure.

I might just get the powder and the stuff

Yea Well If you want to try the sand it's upto you, I have been told its really not all worth it but I too would like to try it. For now I am sticking to just the soil and MAY get one or 2 bags of sand (As I need to buy 10 bags for my 4x2x2 set up its gonna be pricey lol)

Also 4 bags should be fine ;)

4 bags it is. Any left over I am sure i can sell for a good price considering the crazy price it is at the moment online. same price as seachem flourite and upaqua haha it is incredible haha.

Anyways have you considered going to aquajournal or the proper ADA website? Lots of interesting stuff on there actually about power sand and its benefits. Seems to be alot of benefits of using it. Everyone I have spoke to said to get a small amount of it (not much just enough to cover the bottom of tank thinly) as it is obvious the difference it makes (unsure if this is the case or not havent tried it).

Shame guppies do not sell the powersand from ADA just the powder and substrate.

SKELETOR are you getting AMAZONIA II? I will be getting that.

Hoping to get the damn Powersand and powder but wanting others opinions???????
