I had mystery snails and it was amazing to watch them lay their eggs.

They crawled up out of the water to a dry location. The eggs came out from under the parent's shell, one by one and glided towards the surface of the glass, where they became attached in a mass to the tank side or lid. The mass adhered to the glass. Snail goo? If it falls off into the water, the babies don't develop - it seems they have to be out of the water, until after they hatch.

When they do hatch, they drop directly into the water. They're so tiny, they're like grains of sand. It's interesting to watch them grow and develop. I ended up with hundreds of them! Yoicks! It was mad! They're fascinating but I wasn't anticipating having quite so many. :econf:

I'm not sure about your see-through lava sacks with white eggs inside, crazyD. My mystery snails egg sacks were opaque and greyish. What breed do you have?

Ramshorn snails have small clear jelly like clumps that look like they have tiny grains of sand inside. Mystery snails are good because you need a male and female. Most snails are homaphradites.

dammit I need a picture lol

these are not the chinese mystery snails.

they have VERY thick strong shells that can stand up to any cichlid aggression

the 'point' of their shell kinda looks snapped off.

not pointy like the chinese mysterys

but ya flat.

anyway I was given them by a koi breeder from sydney for my pond ages ago

and ya thats the name he used

but they are not the same as what a lot of other people call Japanese trapdoors

hmmmm..... I need a latin name
