empty egg shell as breeding site for alto's

Recommended Posts

i keep a couple differnt species of comps and calvus and need to find more breeding sites.

i was wondering if i could take all the egg out of the shell ad clean it and use it for various species of comps and calvus.

would the chicken egg shell perlute the water or anything like that or disolve over time?

If you do use them boil them then roast them then coat them with something like clear nail polish to prevent breakage. Thats what I did when I used them to fix my snails dissolving shells.

Not sure how it would go, egg shells are very porous so I'm not sure how continued submersion would go.

Put some shells in a bucket of water for a week before they go in your tank to see what happens.

2 bobs worth

hmmmm, not a bad idea.

two points

1) they tend to disolve and get brittle so may not be long term and shell spawners tend to get attached to THEIR shell

2) emu eggs may be hard to get..... but I now want to try one.

yeah, looking for some larger eggs.

also was thinking if i got like 15 eggs and siliconed them onto a rock like a big baricle kind of thing. i know that people have lots of success with baricles but i can't find them anywhere.
