Ketapang / Indian Almond Leaves

Recommended Posts

Apparently these leaves are good for fish (especially fighters). A shame I only have one lonely fighter as my backyard currently looks like this ........

If anyone wants some leaves, I am happy to give away as many as you can carry!

Hahahaha  .... only problem is I am in Cairns!

And yeah, I'm serious, you are welcome to come & rake my yard! :woohoo:

They are not just good for little Bettas. The leaves apparently lower the PH, add tanins to water and (possibly) have slight medicinal properties (oils in the leaves). (but then, Peat can be used to do almost the same things).

It just so happens that lowering the PH and adding tanins to the water is one of the tricks to get certain fish into breeding condition. Lots of Tetras, loaches, danios, rasboras, etc all come from "black water" where the water is highly acidic with a low ph between 5 and 6.5. According to Wikipedia the acidity of the water also leads to the water having a conductivity similar to rain water, with other good properties.

(Hopefully all the above is accurate :S -- I am only speaking from what I have read, not from what I have experienced.)
