Johanni Fry without a tail!

Recommended Posts

As stated in the title, today i arrived home to find my female johanni has spat her fry, but one dosent seem to have a tail! its moving about fine in the tank using its side fins... Is this a regular mutation?

Any advice would be great!

Thanks

not the most common mutation but it does happen.

Just inspecting some fry about an hour ago and realised I have about 3 saulosi with the dreaded 'queensland shortface' mutation.

First time I have ever seen it with any of my fry but in last 2 years I have seen it in electric blues, venustus and electric yellows.

The cause is a mystery to me...... at first I thought maybe the council had added something new to the water (flouride?) and then maybe that it was feed related...... but that doesnt explain all the rest being normal!

I suppose all I can do is remove the saulosi female mother from the broodstock.

But ya..... keep an eye out for the infamouse qld shortface.

its a strange one.

mutations arent humane?

wth?

lol ya gotta explain that one too me!

I will throw up a picture of a qld shortface tonite if I remember.

Prob gonna destroy these guys unfort.

But ya seen them around a fair bit.

Be nice to know the actual cause.....
