Spits
Hey all, I have just found 3-5 fry from my Julidichromis Ornatus, but I don't know how to keep them alive. lol. I have had some fry before, 2 from the julies and 2 from some maingano, but every single one of them have been eaten or have died. I have removed the fry, as well as their parents from my main tank, and have put them in a small 40cm*20cm tank. Was this the right move? and, I have two filters, but I'm not sure which to use, I have a 500L/H internal or one of those sponge filters. Except everytime I hook the sponge filter up to the air pump, it doesn't look like it is sucking anything in. Is this normal? Any help would be really appreciated, as I would like to be able to start keeping some fry alive. Thanks alot, Spits
smiley
hey spits jullies normally dont eat their fry and actually do better as family groups although just about any other cichlid will have a go at the fry to breed jullies seriously you really need them in a tank by themselves if you are going to seperate id suggest a floating fry saver with an airstone in the tank and maybe a little coral or rock for the bubs to hide in peter 0421331544
Spits
Thanks alot, They are currently in a seperated tank, but I'm unsure what I should do. Should I use the sponge filter or the 500l/hr internal? Also, should I make it bare-bottom, or keep gravel in it?

Spits
Ok, thanks alot for all your help, One last thing, Would you happen to know how long it is in between spawns? Cheers Spits
smiley
not exactly but most cichlids it depends on food how many already in the tank just how happy they are the closest between spawns would be maybe a couple of weeks but cna be months apart there is no fixed time peter
woocoo
mine are kept in a 2ft tank by them self with about 5 - 6 different batches of fry, as the fry get bigger around the 4cm mark i find the breeders will no longer allow them into their breeding site, although they allow the small fish, this is when I remove the larger fry from the tank, the parents care for the fry without to much of a problem. I just run my tank with a sponge filter , and find my breed fairly regulary every 2-3 weeks, and find that that if I do a large water change it normally triggers a spawn. Spits
Thanks heaps, I took them out today, so I think it may probably take a while before they spawn again. But I'll wait and see Thanks alot, Spits
