We could ask him to post some photos

I'm sure caution is the key when considering these fish. It would be great for the hobby though if they are indeed what they purport to be. Fingers crossed.8)

Glad too see we aren't the only people to never get replies. We email them quite a few time about a year ago from about 4 different email addresses and never go 1 reply. I think they are just taking up space and aren't really selling anything.

I can get in contact with him as i have his personal number. He actually called me the other day to see if i was interested in some of them. As far as i am aware he does have them but i will not say he DEFINATELY does until i seem them in person which will hopefully be soon.

I got a response from him via email... but has a tonne of excuses on why he cant send me pics of the actual fish.. told him would only be interested if i saw pics as I am an hour away from him.. go figure

Would they happen to be associated with Exotic's?

Is it a cross? I admit I know very little on the topic but I'm keen to be enlightened about this beautiful looking fish. A natural occurring variant or evil, evil hybrid..........?????

A very interesting discussion with extra links can be found here:

I am not convinced - too much work has to be done to keep the line going to be naturally occuring as some will have you believe

It's not a hybrid or cross.

From the thread that Peter posted.

Jeff Rapps had some DNA work done which resulted in confirming they are not hybrids.

Naturally this DNA work was challenged and believed by many to be inconclusive.

Cole, a member here, has pushed to have further DNA research done. This has also come back to validate they are not hybrids.

Naturally that has been challenged too...

To do such thorough DNA research to prove 100% they are not hybrid is simply so extensive no one will donate the time or money to do it. So they've done valid, yet not 100% validating, DNA testing. Not one ounce of DNA testing has shown that they may be hybrids, it has all shown these fish are naturally occurring...

Edit: While I'd trust Rapps judgement on CA/SA Cichlids, this thread raises good points for both sides. Even if it is just a colour morph, or hybrid, I'd never have one for myself anyway.

Read the whole post and the links to the EB sites - the conclusion is hazy at best.

It seems that the consensus is that the EBJD may be a cross but hey that doesn't matter. And the fact you get some apparantly normal fish from the cross?

Seriously - can someone explain how it is "good for the hobby" to continue to propogate a cross?

Isn't the discus thing and all the strains based on hybrids and cross breeding
