I believe it is illegal to take corals and inverts from our reefs. I think you are able to catch you own fish with a net only. Could be wrong but something like that. MASA is a good site for info. pkc
You need to read the moreton bay marine park regulations and any others for SEQ as we have rusty. You are not allowed to privatly take corals from anywhere, everyone knows that. Plus it is rude to insinuate that we would incourage this practice. But all other inverts, and there are a lot of them, are allowed to be taken at a rate of 5 per 28 days in the moreton bay marine park.. That is the same with fish species as well. Algaes, sponges, pepermint shrimp etc, have virtualy no regulations. But we never over do anything in our lovely ocean environment. A few of us associated with the club have been collecting our own species for over 30 years. One of our oldest life members has been appart of collecting trips since 1926. Though the the last time he was able to come with us was 11 years ago,he is a little frail now. Please check actual regulations so an informed comment can be put forward. If you want,i can collate and send some information on all legal variations of collecting activities for prvate collecting for the east coast of Australia. If need be we know a few people from Wa if you would like info for there as well. It's all good.
Rusty1
They are the most active in collecting your own marine species. No mention there that you cant take corals. These are public boards and it should be taken for granted that "every 1" knows that. I have no interest in collecting myself so I dont need the information thanks. As I said I knew you could catch fish but wasnt sure on inverts. Good luck with your next trip.
pkc
I believe it is illegal to take corals and inverts from our reefs. Thats pretty clear wording and it seemed like you were not sure on the fish taking! Anyway, say what you like, the uninformed normaly do.(It's all good fun). Now what is this first or second leuitenant thing on the left of the comments? Is that for this forum or another?

Can you link me to where I may find a list of what I can and can not take please? I had a look around the EPA website but couldnt find anything specific regarding all marine creatures. And way to quote me out of context.
Rusty1
OK...so I have spent some time reading and have come up with the following: This is just Moreton Bay. Limited to five declared fish or declared invertebrates other than corals You can do that in anywahere but a buffer zone or protection zone. (Cant find anything about number of days though) http://www.epa.qld.gov.au/media/parks_a ... e_park.pdf Then when you look at this link http://www.legislation.qld.gov.au/LEGIS ... BZnP97.pdf you go to Schedule 3 Declared Animals Is this the list you are allowed to collect?
pkc
We made the same mistake you made and finaly got the actual zones and legislation simply displayed in colour appllying to them as well. They start off with the green zones with no extractions with only the commercial guys allowed in until 3 to 5 years or once artificial reefs are developed, possible changes of this are finalised in october nexr year. The Moreton bay marine park authority or marine paks will send you out the actual regs if you ask.Be specific though. There are three govening bodies out there and they cross over each other. Each one governs certain aspects of individual areas. It's all good.
pkc
I got onto Natalie Reed A/snr Conservation officer Moreton Bay region,Queensland parks and wildlife. Just to check as what has changed and nothing has,you just don't get it. As like many others you don't understand the legislation,so the link you got or the link i could supply, will lead you no where as you wont get it. Don't worry there are heaps of others out there. Call Natalie on 38219021 if you don't get the gist of this. The general use zones,in light blue. The habitat zones in medium blue. The conservation zones in yellow. All three of these zones of which we have a look around in have an alowance of five declared species(animals) per 28 days.If they are not declared there is no limit. You may not take any corals or anemonies as such. As to what you can use for collecting, that is up to you but it must be a hand held apparatus of course and not on scuba. How is that, got it? Now Rusty1,i have checked on whats the go with you. You are the buisness liason officer from masa, form the gold coast thats a bit nervus of the ocean. Thats okay a few of our members are a bit scared of the big blue as well. Sorry, but from what i have been told,i am better off responding to brick wall. Hey,it's all good. What part am I not getting? I didnt say it changed? I simply asked if the declared specias are the 1's you can collect. Now Rusty1,i have checked on whats the go with you.You are the buisness liason officer from masa, form the gold coast thats a bit nervus of the ocean. You, like many others dont get it. No need to be scared. MASA doesnt have a "business liason officer" . Need to check up on your facts. BTW...it is Nervous Thats okay a few of our members are a bit scared of the big blue as well.Sorry, but from what i have been told,i am better off responding to brick wall. Hey,it's all good. Awesome, didnt realise I was so well known. I know 2 people from these boards and 20 or so over at RTAW. You are simply better off not responding if you want to continue flaming. I have asked 2 simple questions as I am niether a collector or diver. I ended finding the answers myself. We have ended up with a different result from where we started. BTW...You know Liquidg?
