Hi mate,

I asked the exact same question to Dfishkeeper (Doug), who is quite experienced with this, and he told me the following:

Hi Brad,

I usually use Virgin Freight, as I have an account with them, but I have used AAE a couple of times to locations Virgin do not fly to. I usually purge the fish for 24-48 hours prior to shipment, and pack them with O2 (I have my own O2 bottle). My understanding is that you cannot use any old foam box, you must use one which is approved for airshipment of seafood, which is demonstrated by a fish symbol usually imprinted on the lid with 15kg or 20kg in the middle of the symbol. You also need to double bag the fish and enclose the bags of fish in a larger plastic bag inside the box. Virgin also require you to include special pads to soak up any water leakage, I'm not sure about AAE, I just automatically include them plus line the box with newspaper. I get all my foam boxes from lfs, they are quite happy to give me a BayFish or AI box they have received a shipment in which already has the large plastic bag and special pads inside. If I were you, I would talk to Mark at Smith's Aquarium, I always find him very helpful. Perhaps he can provide you with a suitable foam box, and he is near the airport if you need to get some O2 in the bags on the way to the airport.

Cheers, Doug

(thanks to Doug, hope you don't mind me passing on your wealth of info  )

cheers,

Brad

Give Scott (Harey'sfish from breeder section) a pm.

He posts and receives fish all over Australia and even ships fish to Brisbane from Gladstone for $20 using a courier. He's a good guy who won't mind helping you out. :)

mate you have seen how i pack the fish for shipping, i do the same process as stated above by Doug, but i was told that if shipping via " Virgin " the fish had to be tripple bagged and they do some times open up the boxes to check that they are properly packed. with "AAE" i only double pack my fish the same as i do for couriering except when couriering i add a bit extra water because the fish are usually in the bags for longer .hth.

P.S. fish are leaving here tomorrow mate.

cheers scott

Thank god you saved that PM and put it up Brad, I would have hated to have had to type all that again

BTW, I specifically suggested Mark at Smith's to Brad as I know Brad lives on the Northside and Mark is on his way to the airport, has oxygen at the shop, and does ship fish himself. There are lots of other really helpful lfs around too, including all the forum sponsors  , so don't hesitate to ask them for help with stuff like this.

Cheers, Doug
