Bully 10 Report post Posted February 3, 2011 Hey mate I've used crushed coral which is course, found it good but don't get it 2 fine as they can/are dirty fish but do like a clean tank... briztoon 1 Report post Posted February 5, 2011 I'm not sure if it's really a concern. My understanding is that fronies are deep water African lake cichlids, so aren't substrate dwellers. Now in the home aquarium this is different. What ever option you go for, you want one that doesn't allow waste (uneaten food and excrement) to filter down through the substrate, but rather sit on top.
