fuzzface
Hi I am going to make a sump for my 48x15x18, I was just going to use the spare 2 foot tank that I have. What size pipe should I use for the overflow? I went down to bunnings today and they have 15mm 20mm 25mm 40mm or bigger, I was thinking 20 or 25 but not sure. damo83
G'day, Have a look at this calculator: http://www.reefcentral.com/calc/drain.php I've just set up my 4x18x20 on a sump and i used 2x 1" (25mm) drains. The calculator said 1x 1" was enough for my flow rate but i went with 2 so if one gets blocked the other can still handle full flow. For the return I used 3/4" (19mm) as this fitted onto the outlet of my pump. Hope that helps at least a little. Cheers Damo
Motorman
If it was me I would go with 2 x 25mm pipes Though check out an irrigation shop before you spend your money at Bunnings and you should be surprised at the price difference Though I only have 1 pipe on my 4x2x2 and it works perfectly I would still go 2 if I did it all again Brad
jimbozed
i run two 25mm outlets on all my tanks, one draws water from the surface, one is extended to draw water from near the bottom. works well.
