Hey there

I'm glad I finally found this new forum in QLD.Well heres my story so far.......... 2 weeks ago I bought a small splish Splash Tank for the fun of it to try to keep some guppies. I got 2 males and 4 females set it all up ie: gravel, filter, heater, air stone and some plants. Put all the fish in and the fun started!!........

Yep I did not cycle or anything so day 2 lost 1 male and 1 female BUT two females started droping their fry!! I got like 40 fry that I have put into a seperate breeder net within the tank. it's been 2 weeks now and the fish seem to be doing ok, even the fry have all survived and are getting big pretty quick. I just hope they all survive the "cycle" which I only learnt about now. I've enjoyed the last two weeks so much I have now ordered a big tank AQUA ONE 120 grande and I hope to get into this hobby full time. I can't wait to get the tank, then I will do it properly this time :) Cycle first for sure... I aim to keep live bearers... Guppies, swordtails, platys and mollies. Will keep you all posted and hope to make new friends and learn lots from this forum.

Best regards to all out there

Mate I think you got the early stages of MTS.

It usually starts with a 10 gallon tank, then you graduate to a 29 gallon tank. Then you go for your first BIG tank, a 55g. However you soon realise that the 55g is just to thin, and you need to upgrade to a 75 gallon tank. Now realise you need a propper BIG tank and go for a 6x2x2, 180 gallons. Then you realise that you have all these smaller tanks, and they'd be good breeders for some of those tarted up African cichlids. So now you need to buy a dozen or so 20 gallon fry tanks and set them up on a single system. But the only place you can fit all this is in the garage, and now your stuck thinking of how to break the news to the wife that she's going to have to park on the street from now on.

I'm not there yet, but it's so true.

Then when you're sorting out what Cichlids you want to keep in your main tank, you come across all these other species that you fall in love with but are incompatible or would break your main tanks theme, so you're stuck trying to find places to put another three or four foot tank to accommodate these fish. I really want biotope themed around a colony of one of the smaller Eartheater species (G. balzanii, B. cupido), too bad the savings account and living arrangements can't fit it in

Thanks for the warm welcome .... Yeah gotta wait for about a week before I get the 4 footer in. At the moment the small tank is holding all my guppy fry in a seperate breeder net within the tank (so u can imagine the space left) when could I put them in with the adults and not have them eaten? they are like 2 weeks old now n getting too big for the net (theres like about 40 of em). and to make matters worse I think another female is about to pop as well.. :econf:

And then once you do that, you think up a way to convince her that the house is just too small to accomodate all the tanks, so you need to buy an "investment property" to house your tanks...
