Mating behaviour of the Striped Raphael Catfish, anyone know what to look for?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys!,

I have 3 12-15cm raphael catfish in a 4 x 2 x 2 tank with lots of hide spots/driftwoods and live plants and have been trying to figure out how to trigger these guys to breed?.

Online all i seem to find is people saying its hard to get them to breed but would like to know things i need to consider/do to help assist?

PLEASE HELP:D

thanks guys.

Chris

Hey I talked to you the other day on the phone :)

But yea only breeders I know have used ovaprim.

The main thing it does is fill the females with eggs.

Then ya trigger the spawn.

I mean you could try become an expert on their home biotype and try replicate it.

But I dunno anyone thats done it that way unfort

after looking into it

seems ovaprim injections are not very effective with these catfish

well with Platydoras costatus at least

hmmmm

I was reading this

View topic - platydoras costatus: breeding ?• Forum • PlanetCatfish

and thought maybe a good step would be to make a slate cave like the one in that thread

seems that cave dimensions may be important.

from what I've been told there is only one breeder in Australia he is a marine biologest and he uses hormones to get them to breed. I was told this by a person who buys directly from him.
