Keeping Cyprichromis leptosoma

Recommended Posts

G'day ive got 5x10gal breeding tanks atm and just wondering if i could put a small school of say 3-4mayb in one of the tanks that I'm not using? Ive been doing a bit of research and they say you should have a large tank. I'm going to get a large african setup in a year or so...would it be advised to get say 4 and grow them until the new tank comes along?

Cheers, Brado

Personally I would have a larger tank, they seem happier in a larger school. A couple of things to remember about Leptos, is firstly they are a mid water fish, so a fairly deep tank give them a bit more water to swim in (also spawn in mid water, funny to watch). Secondly they are a step breeder, where you can leave the fry in the tank to help raise teh younger fry, interesting to watch as you end up with quite a range of sizes.

I have also been told they have a fairly short lifespan (not sure of this as mine seem to find the smallest gap in the lids to jump out of), so its handy to have a few smallies coming through.

Matt
