Plant id and anubis question

Recommended Posts

Ok for the plant people

Can anyone tell me the name of this plant? I don't know where I got. It was only two horrid little leaves when I go it and I nearly threw it out. Since then it has grown and I now have 4 plants from runners.

And another question

I have a anubis and it's just growing straight up. Can I prune the tip out to make it grow out a bit more?

Thanks

Jenny

Thanks ginberbeer

I have no idea what sort of anubis it is. It came with some driftwood a while back. Here is a pic. The second pic is of a baby plant that came off the end of it. The plecos have been giving it a hard time lately.

Looks like Nana - or small one

You can cut the main stem bit to get two plants - buit can get a fungal infection and the plant rotting by doing that. Maybe try training it by tieing the main stem along the driftwood to encourage it to grow roots and keep attaching.

How much light do you have - that may be affecting the way it is growing too.

It was in my 4ft with two aquaglo lights. It has been moved to the new 6ft (6x2x2) but it has only been in there a couple of months and the first 2-3weeks it didn't have much light as the new light was faulty :irked: (I lost most of my java fern over that time) I think that's why the plecos attacked the anubis.

It now has a 6ft light with 2 aquaglo and two growlux lights. The anubis is about 30cm now. Will it cause much trouble to move it to driftwood? It's attached to a piece of slate at the moment. The baby grew at the back of the plant and I broke it off and put on the drift wood.

I tend to stick to val or fake. I'm not good with plants. Even the non aquatic version, a sure fire way to kill a plant.....Give it to me.

As tank depth increases - so does light requirements. Dor plants in a 2 foot deep you really need halogen....unforunatly.

You should do OK with low light species but. Swords, crypts and anubias are all good at low light.

Anubias doesn;t really care what it is attaced too - but is going to try and gain height due to low light IMO.
