I'm using NLS growth and my Brevis fry are growing quite well... if you want live BBS you'll most probably have to hatch them yourself. You can buy the eggs from most LFS or you can buy frozen BBS.

As for the 44Gal drum... if they're the metal drums i wouldn't use them as they may leak toxins into the water.

Most people use the big plastic 1000L tubs for grow out.

the 44gal drums are plastic

Well then they should be fine as long as they haven't ever been filled with chemicals, oils, etc.

I'd probably fill one with water and let it sit for a while then get the water tested for any toxins.

They are the cheapest you will buy the bulk tin of brine shrimp eggs from Rion.

I have seen them recently in a shop for $275 for the same size and brand of eggs.

The only other choice is to ask Russ from RPC,maybe he can give you a price on a bulk tin.

As far as I am concerned live BBS is by far the best.

Also if you are breeding Americans and Shellies you virtually need them as they are small enough for the newly hatched fry to eat.

Crushed flake and pellets will work as well but no where as effective as BBS.

You can also grow some BS up to a larger size to feed the adults and bigger fry.

If you buy a tin just keep the eggs in the fridge and they will last a year or 2 if looked after.

If you are over Kingston way anytime I can sell you a small lot of eggies to help you out if you dont want to buy a full tin.

I can also show you how to build a hatcher and how to successfully hatch them.
