aterese
Here's some pictures and some of the notes I've made of what I think I have. Can anyone be able to outline what I have, whether they are African or Amercian Cichlids, and which are compatible (ie. I want to divide into 2 tanks or 3 if any can exist with guppies/bn) ? 5ft tank ======== PICS ATTACHED AT BOTTOM Pakistani loach (x2 sml) Angel (who's fins are slowly disappearing) Bristlenose catfish (3 pairs) Peppermint (x1) Electric yellows (x2) Rainbow sharks (x2) Johanni (1m, 1f) Bumblebee (Crabro) x2 Lombardoi (1m, 1f) Rusty White tip Elongatus Frontosa 6 bar ? Maleri Gold ? Blue Peacock ? Salousi ? 2ft quarantine tank =================== Oscar (5cm) Swordtails (4f, 2m) - why won't they breed when 2 were supposively preggie when i got them 4 wks ago? Clown loach (15cm) 1.5ft breeding tank =================== Guppies (4f, 2m) 4ft spare tank ============== goldfish (x3 20cm) black moors (x3) smaller goldfish (x2) - determining whether to rehome these or if any will be compatible GOALS 5ft - main display of cichlids 4ft - oscar friendly tank (put any compatible fish here to divide them up, eg. loach, bn) 2ft - become goldfish tank, throw in guppies for survival of the fitess weekend 1.5ft - quarantine tank in future I was due to inherit a convict soon....however being American is there anywhere he'd be compatible ? Unless otherwise indicated, all fish are meant to be males as I was trying (except for johanni/lombardoi/bn) to avoid breeding. Should I put maybe johanni in with oscar...since they seem to be each able to look after themselves. Would this reduce stress on the other cichlids. With 3 pairs bn....should I be putting a pair in each tank to avoid aggression between them....or if I'm finding they all gather together in the one cave atm....that they are okay ? Thanks for anyone who can look through these pictures and clarify the species I have.
aterese
I've apparently got a Flameback in there too.
gtr73
Your second photo of the Elongatus in the right corner (blue body, stripes and yellow tail / dorsal tip), is a Pseudotropheus Sp. "elongatus Mpanga" I'm fairly sure. Nice fish, a Lake Malawi African know as an "Mbuna", they like rockwork to swim, hide and eat the algae off. Primarily a veggie eater but they also eat tiny crustaceans in the wild, so you're reasonably safe to feed cichlid flake regularly. He'll grow to about 12cm. Get some green "veggie" flake too as some of your other fish look to be Mbuna Africans also - Lombardoi (Metriaclima lombardoi), Rusty (Iodotropheus sprengerae) - like a bit of green. I think I also see a Red Zebra (Pseudotropheus estherae), another Mbuna from Lake Malawi. The Red Zebra are good tempered fish in a community I've found, and I've heard Rusty's are the same. The Lombardoi can be quite aggressive but as long as you have heaps of rocks and change them around regularly, they should all play nicely together.. bmxican
dont put the johanni and the oscar together they are different types of cichlids and they require different water parameters. the oscar is an american cichlid and it seems like most of the others you have are african except the Pakistani loach, Angel, Bristlenose catfish, Peppermint Bn, Rainbow sharks, swordtails and clown loach. aterese
Can I put: Pakistani loach, Angel, Bristlenose catfish, Peppermint Bn, Rainbow sharks, swordtails clown loach. All with the oscar then ? I'd be happy with that mix, as then I could get some more clown loach and sharks to complete the tank. Then I'd leave all the other cichlids (africans) together. gtr73
From what I've seen with Oscars, they demolish (kill, eat) all other tankmates. Once he gets big those smaller sized swordies, loaches etc won't stand a chance. I had a couple many many years ago and essentially they destroyed all other fish I tried putting in there and only tolerated one another in the end, in one 3ft tank (probably a male/female?). Some people love them but.
damo83
Can I put:Pakistani loach, Angel, Bristlenose catfish, Peppermint Bn, Rainbow sharks, swordtails clown loach. All with the oscar then ? I'd be happy with that mix, as then I could get some more clown loach and sharks to complete the tank. Then I'd leave all the other cichlids (africans) together. I suppose you could put them in the 4ft short term but just remember the oscar will grow quite quickly and won't be 5cm for long... And you'll most likely end up with one fat oscar...
