Whats best for a planted tanks lids or no lids

Recommended Posts

most glass is designed 2 refract UV light by a significant amount. All my plant tanks have no lids but are always an inch or less from the top of the glass. NO way to prove how more efficient it is to do this but science says its more effective.

Most hightec planted tanks are rimless and have no lids. But this also means more evaporation so just top your tank up more regularly. Also yer try to have the water up as high as possible. I would just take the lids off. But IMO really dont think it would make much difference, if your fish jump then don't take them off.

I removed the lids on my tank for similar reasons. It did seem to allow slightly more light but I found my evaporation rate increased a lot more than what I thought I gained in light.

I've now gone for a compromise with lids on the back half of the tank to reduce evaporation leaving the front clear for easier maintenance.

Ado.
