Canon 70-200mm f4 L

Recommended Posts

Not really. There are 2 versions of that lens though. The IS(image stabilized) and Non-IS. If you are always shooting at higher shutter speeds, the IS is not needed however the IS makes easy work of camera shake when working with low shutter speeds(A must in my books). The f/4L is as sharp as they come though and still produces some nice creamy bokeh. If you are willing to spend the extra for the IS f4, it may be a better choice to go for the Canon EF 70-200 f/2.8 L USM. Non IS but you get the wide open aperture. It is around the same price as the f/4 IS version. You also have 3rd party choices like the Sigma APO 70-200mm f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM to consider. While not quite on par with the Canon counterparts, it is still a great lens with many great reviews behind it.

I have the Sigma APO 70-200 f/2.8 EX HSM DG OS and I don't find any faults with it apart from its 2 piece hood which sometimes annoys the crap out of me.

I only own Sigma lenses, and soon to get a Tokina Macro.

The regular F4 is less than $800 and the sigma f2.8 is less than $800.

The IS F4 is $1300ish and the Sigma 2.8 OS is less again.
