jyeberghofer
hey mate. i guess your talking about lava rock? you can buy pieces from your lfs with whole in them but they are pretty expensive ($16 each). I bought some today jsut from the local landscaping place. ended up getting 6 large pieces for 5 dollars. was pretty happy
brockssracer
you could put a besser block into your tank ONLY if you seal it on all surfaces after you drill it with a pond sealer for concrete.

shon982
Can't see the problem with lime being leached, lime is calcium hydroxide (well for fish such as africans it's good) used to increase hydroxide ions in the water which increases kH and pH also marine people use it as "Kalkwasser" dosing I use bricks made from limestone in my tanks
wickkyjr
Just get a fake rock
trofius
aerated concrete also known as hebble is also full of aluminium hydroxide, and is a big no no.. clay bricks should be fine, old besser bricks will leach much less lime, new ones could potentially leach too much, aqnd even with regular big water changes could resulyt in unstable and fluctuating ph.. DeadFishFloating
anyone know if you can put a besser block done it before with no problems but if they are new, soak it for a few weeks first can always test the soak water for a pH high range spike. just looks ugly is all but ya used a lot of concrete based rocks in tanks before with no problems. Heck I have seen concrete ponds for breeding discus in malaysia lol
