relle
So I have a red scat and a silver scat......every now and again i see the red chasing the silver around the tank nipping at its body......never any damage, the silly silver scat sometimes forgets its size and gets stuck in places now and again but there doesn't seem to be too big a problem......at other times they cruise around the tank together. So my question is......when does fish fighting become a problem? I've seen my cichlids do the occasional "back off this spot's mine!" behaviour which i know is natural.....but beyond that. Is it when there's a bit of damage done? allot of damage done? when it becomes relentless? Otherwise are these guys just entertaining themselves and/or establishing a hierarchy? goldenswimmers
hey Relle..this is just my opinion....I think they will have the pecking order system to get food etc and theres always some bullying and fun little fisticuffs but I think its when a fish is harassed to the point where it will end up with injuries or cannot get food...I've noticed a wound from bullying can pop up in a couple of days so you definitely see the signs.....and also I watch at food times...some guys will bully fish out of getting food and just leave the food there!!...obviously a dominant stand to show whos boss(of the whole tank!)...but if your weak/bullied fish dont get food..its only a matter of time til they will get sick etc....I have a white rivulatus that I have saved from a double bullying (golds dont like the whites aye..rascist rivs I tell ya!) and he had some serious wounds but these guys are tough and with a bit of love..he looks fantastic now like nothing happened...and the gold rivs I had to move on so hes the winner! DeadFishFloating
Its a hard one to really say on, as each case is different. The answer depends on the cause of the aggression.
