Small Guy
So like the title says I've just got a free 4ft tank, currently giving it a clean and checking it's watertight (so far so good) but I'm wondering two things... 1) What should I put in it? I've got a tank of Angels and some tetras so I was thinking either cichlids or discus. 2) What kind of filter would be best for this tank? I've never had to buy a filter for a tank as my other two came as a set? Sorry if this one's a dumb ass question but I've only really dealt with Aqua One Hang On filters. Thanks guys. The Tech Den
Small Guy you are a sucker - just like me hard to say no. But it is funny - free 4ft tank, yeah cool, hmmm what to do with it, should have thought more about it lol. Guess that is what they mean by the fish bug hey. I do the same thing over and over and over. So anyways about the filter you have three choices Internal filter - Small but does not take up a lot of room and you have to clean it more often. Canister filter - Bigger and a better Biological Filter and clean it less often Sump - Bigger area than the Canister so does a better job and clean it even less. Discus are a bit harder to keep than cichlids so depends on your experience.
holden1862
If it was me I would go a canister filter for sure, but that's all I have ever had. Internal will be your cheapest option But you won't get the same affect as a canister filter or a sump. You need a good filtration system if you want to keep discus Aswell so I don't think an internal would do the trick. Unless want to be doing a water change every day ;-)
Small Guy
So I've just found after cleaning the layer of dirt from the tank that the bottom is cracked. Is there any way to fix this and if so what's the easiest?
sarah1234
If you do try to fix it fill it and leave it outside for a week or so. The amount of free/second hand tanks I've had burst.. I never EVER use second hand anymore.
