drmunroe
I'm going away for 5 days, back for 1 night, then away again for almost 2 weeks over the christmas/NY period. I have a 5ft tank with large snake skin gourami & angels. Also there's a few neons & some juvie flying foxes... My concern is keeping them healthy while I'm away. I do have quite a bit of java moss in the tank & (can't remember the name) long "grassy" plants. There is plenty of beard algae for the foxes & I'm thinking the gourami & angels can feed on the moss & grass? A friend said there are tablets you can buy that puts nutrients in the water while you're away which helps the fish? Or I was thinking of buying some small feeder fish? I did want to maybe stay away from this option as I don't want to encourage the larger fish to eat smaller ones as I want more neons & cardinals & the neons keep getting eaten... I do have flatmates but I don't trust they will feed them properly. Any suggestions would be appreciated
kleggy
What about an Automatic Fish Feeder. I recently bought a Resun one of eBay for $20. Worked great for the week away, feeding 3 x Day. Now it feeds them all the time. Can program up to 4 times a day and can feed up to 99 days depending on feeding amount. I agree, I have 5 of them which keep my main tank fish healthy while I'm away.
steve6610
auto feeders are great if you have a couple tanks, but what if you have 20+ tanks, lol, i'm going to have the same trouble, but in feb, we are going up nth to visit my family, might have to look into a few auto feeders for the main tanks, i've used the tablets a few years ago, i'm guessing they do work, but not sure how good,
Still_Shorty
I agree, I have 5 of them which keep my main tank fish healthy while I'm away. Agree with that. There are plenty on the market. Bought mine from AOA. Simply to program & use. No loss of fish.

Supercobwe
If you don't want to buy too many auto feeder but you have lots of tank then you can ask someone like friends, family members or neigbours someone that you can trust to swap/remove the auto feeding to others tank for you every 2-4 days that way all tanks have a feed if you away for more than 2-3 weeks. bidkev
Having a fish that hasn't eaten for over 18 weeks now, I could say, "don't bother". I've left mine hungry for 3 weeks with no ill effects, unless they're fry.

bidkev
Lolol, what's the fish? A snook.........The lad can't bring himself to euthanize. Strangely enough, he's lost no weight and only seems a little thinner in the gut.
Yodapwnsasmurf
One of my jags is the same, Hasn't eaten since I got it, aint any thinner though. Shame though, what do you think causes it?
gollys
I would put the daily fish food allowance into small portions and wrap them in small foil parcels and get the flat mates to feed them. Or you could buy a Mon-Sunday pill box and put the portions in there that way they wont overfeed if you have premeasured it. You could even just ask them to feed every second day the amounts you portion out?
Ashlum
Every time I go away ....having relied on my mother in law to feed my fish I come back to something dead;(. Last time was a tank full of crs. Time before that she turned off the heaters in my pond and I had Oscar iceblocks. Lol. Choose wisely.... Not like me. On the brighter side I got to buy lots more shrimp and fish. Yay.
Syndicate
Better of just staving them you should worry more about water quality while your away imo
LS1silvia
over 5 days i would have one "meal" for each tank in a different container on the tank it is ment for, and have someone drop it in at the 2.5 day mark. They will be fine
drmunroe
Better of just staving them you should worry more about water quality while your away imo I have great filtration & have just done a water change so water quality will not be an issue. Thanx everyone for your suggestions - I like the pill-box idea mite do that.
