Rock Collecting Rewards

Recommended Posts

Went to a local creek on a private property today to do some rock collecting. Being a total iwagumi lover I love looking for new and different stuff. Have found some great rocks here before, and it is a very large area to search! I tried to stick to collecting groups of certain stones. I've made the mistake of finding a beautiful rock before and then realising I need more to do a scape, never to be able to find any like it again!

Loving the holey (volcanic?) rocks, thinking they could make a very gentle and soft iwagumi scape. I have a large collection of the blood red rocks now, they are really a site to see with the white veins and bright reds. I don't know if I'll ever use them but I do enjoy the look of them. Trying to imagine a scape where they would not be too garish. Still pretty though.

Was bloody exhausting lugging this lot from the extents of the creek back to the car I tell ya! It was raining too!

Anyway here are the pics

Was bored thisarvo so went to the creek across the road from me for another look. Different location but found the same type of stones. Now I have double the amount of the porous stones, so easily enough to do a scape! :D

Hairgrass and cardinals, here i come!

They are ALL MINE I tell you hehe.

Nah I would feel bad considering people are nice enough to let me look on their properties. And I'm a greedy rock hoarding monster (don't tell anyone). It's bloody hard to find nice rocks in Aus for iwagumi, we don't have sharp grey pointy ones like what is EVERYWHERE in Japan lol. I'll put Australia on the aquascaping map :P.

Not keen on paying a hefty price for imports that I can't guarantee what they will look like. I like my rocks. I get bloody strange looks when I try to explain to people why i am looking for rocks though

maybe I should setup the page and employ you as a collector

you have the eye

and the eye is all the matters!

I have the eye, but not the muscles! I need multiple workers to carry said heavy rocks back to the car and you've got yourself a collector donny!

lol drones

sounds like we need to start a cult amigo.

but srsly I used to carry around rocks as training

the trick I learnt tho

is to use a boat lol

I could pretend I was training people for the army! but secretly just getting them to carry my rocks!

I did that when i was at The gympie muster in August the creeks up there are awesome....

everyone was getting there boot scootin on while i was hauling rocks in green shopping bags lol.....

Haha sounds like something I would do. I got half way up the creek and my green bags broke! Proceeded to carry them the remainder of the way a few at a time. I was bloody sore by the end of it lol.

Nice work haha did you not use old backpacks to carry the rocks? :P Far safer option hahaha. I always carry a backpack with some essential tools and water (if there is no stream nearby to drink from) for rock collecting and driftwood hunting haha.

Now you got me wanting to go collecting this week :( Dam you haha

If I go I will post the success up. I found some really really nice rocks at mt isa when I was on a site visit with Xstrata however was not able to take any on the plane home and would of got weird looks at the dam taking rocks back on the bus haha.

Why didn't I think of a backpack!?!!

Will do that next time. Have to wait till mumzy goes to visit the owners of the property again, so probably go again next week and get some more. The more rocks the better I reckon. I'm only having trouble deciding on my dominant rock as there are too many to choose from!
