tuffy_rana
hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.......... eBay Australia: Buy new & used fashion, electronics & home d FS: WATER LETTUCE x 1 LIVE PLANT "Declaration details Water lettuce is a declared Class 2 plant under Land Protection (Pest and Stock Route Management) Act 2002. A Class 2 pest is one that has already spread over substantial areas of Queensland, but its impact is so serious that we need to try and control it and avoid further spread onto properties that are still free of the pest. By law, all landholders must try to keep their land free of Class 2 pests and it is an offence to keep or sell these pests without a permit. A local government may serve a notice upon a landholder requiring control of declared pests." farmed under permit? doubtful

tuffy_rana
for every noxious pest in oz....we could release a new prospective noxious to combat it. silver dollars would take care of noxious water weeds like elodea, cabomba, water lettuce and hyacinth. then you release gator gars to eat the dollars. get rid of a half dozen noxys and have just one. then put a 2 dollar bounty per gator gar. pbass would take care of tilapia and die out in winter *obviously this is "tongue in cheek" for the .........rons
the German
Didn't no that the weed on the dam was water lettuce thanks for the heads up! noyakfat
Interesting point about the worm farms. Another declared water weed here is Salvinia (S. molesta). This plant has also proved very useful to worm farmers when harvested from the water surface and fed to worms. It is exceptionally nutrient rich and the worms love it. But yeah... declared pests are a "no-no"...
DeadFishFloating
salvinia is good food for worms BUT duckweed is INCREDIBLE food for worms still legal and much better
noyakfat
Oh, perhaps I should have included a disclaimer... the Salvinia post was not intended to encourage anyone to grow it specifically. I just meant it was one small facet of integrated pest management methods being utilised by some folks. Go duckweed!
