LeroyRiding Posted January 2, 2012 Report Share Posted January 2, 2012 AS the title sugests, im after a high gloss 'modern' looking Cabinet, Something verry clean, looks like its out of a scifi flick, that high gloss white, completeley flat, looks a little like perspex. . . Getting a new appartment and think im going to go with a white and Red Furniature theme and currently my Tanks cab and hood is a dark "walnut' stain and in a old fashion style. . . best photo i can give is this, so kind of a cabinet and hood made to fit in with this style. . __CAV__ Posted January 3, 2012 Report Share Posted January 3, 2012 Cabinet maker is probably the only way you will have it done, and if its for a display why not pay the money for it and get a professional to do it. i'm pretty sure a few guys on here are cabinet makers by trade perhap one of them may be able to help. But I just thought of idea if you wanted to use your old stand, get some door made up and have them sit flush with the legs, then for the legs get some stainless steel or white high gloss contact sheets and stick it to the legs. Norm doesnt quite meet my wood working standards After a high quality finish, probs go custom from a cabinet maker by the sounds of it, need a price on a sump and 5x2x2.5 now. . . chooka Posted January 16, 2012 Report Share Posted January 16, 2012 Honestly mate its really not as hard as it sounds. Build a frame out of hardwood or pine if your cheap. Doesn't overly matter as long as you use good joins and know what your doing. Then just clad the sides. Screw them to the frame, counter sink the holes fill with plaster filler sand back and take it to get 2 packed ( high gloss ) if you want it bright. If not make each panel. I have the wooden colonial type in a 6 foot (similar to yours) and my daughter has one as well, but Maher did not paint her 3 footer, but we got it two-packed painted in White - hers looks awesome !!!!! You could ask Maher to do the smooth doors (so no panelling) and get it painted later. I found getting the painting done myself (but professionally of course) was cheaper than ordering it done in two-pack. I just prefer Maher tanks as they are always so beautifully done and finished. Most are dealing with two pack nowadays,check out some photos/jobs that they have already done to see if they are up to your standards.... Gary Maher does do it but expensive. gollys Posted January 17, 2012 Report Share Posted January 17, 2012 Yes that is why I got Maher to do my daughters just in a raw finish and had someone local do the 2-pac, it saved us alot of $. The finish is amazing - and the guy picked up and delivered again too. Her tank looks incredible, it made me wish I got my big one done the same in a crispy white finish. I think if mine looks shabby down the track I would get is sanded back and 2-pac - they do look so nice. Hers and mine are the colonial style - but he does doors without paneling too, and you can get really nice trendy door knobs to give it that sleek modern look you are looking for. My daughter after she had her cabinet 2-pac then went and brought some really cool fish shaped knobs from Bunnings in Silver - looks so lovely in her pink and white room.
