028NVD
Hi ladles and jellyspoons, heres my dilemma, i have a hydor slim skim nano, but the magnetic suction cups were lost in a move. I can get new ones from aquadepot but have to wait till march/april . Does anyone know of any reasonably priced magnetic suction mounts that i would be able To just silicone to my skimmer? Or even a plastic or epoxy coated very strong magnet, i have tried making my own using some small neodymium mags covered in abs but the werent strong enough to hold the weight of the skimmer , i'm willing to pay up to about $60 for 4 or 2 very strong magnets that i could use. So i challenge you all to find something that will work! For anyone that can help, you possibly making me the happiest guy around as i've almost given up looking Sam
beencees
Not sure exactly how strong they need to be but my first thought would be to get a couple of those magnetic glass cleaners and using them. Alternatively i seem to remember that AOA has a magnetic thingy for mounting vibration pumps instead of using suction cups. They have mag clips also as well as the afore mentioned magnetic glass cleaners. Maybe give them a try.
028NVD
Thanks, its a nano tank and glass is approx 4-5mm, with space in the tank being quite tight i've avoided using a glass cleaner as they are quite bulky, the thought has crossed my mind though! aquaaddict
any chance of fabricating something to sit across the top of the tank with linkage down from it to support the pump? another idea, simple bit of acylic or perspex attached to the pump and hooked up and over the edge of the glass. the hook shape could be formed by using heat or again by glueing couple smaller bits. 028NVD
Ok, so today i decided to rip apart my magnetic glass cleaner, in total there are 4 round magnets that much stronger than the ones i was using! This time i'll silicone the magnets up with aquarium safe silicone and attach it to my skimmer, i that doesnt work then i'll try aqua addicts way with the acrylic. Also going to redo the sump so the skimmer can reside there and not in the tank to give a neater look
