Mackayman
Hey all I cut some new lids for my display yesterday ( upgrading from 4mm to 5-6mm ) I had a heap of trouble cutting the 45 degee corners on 6mm glass 4mm - was easy as 5mm - just managed, lots of filing to make tidy 6mm - Could not do it Anybody got any clues as to how I can do this successfully ? Syndicate
make your cut, then place the cut line along the edge of a bench with the corner hanging off then tap it off with the cutting tool or something similar

beencees
Make sure your cutter is SHARP! A sharp cutter will not need to be pressed hard. If you don't have glass pliers you can improvise with a pair of vice-grips and a couple of bits of wood. Clamp the wood on either side of the glass just below the cut and as syndicate says use a bench top with a towel or similar on it. Put your hand on the glass (the bit you're keeping) and with the pliers lift it up so the waste side is elevated (then end you're keeping remains on the bench)then firmly strike it down onto the edge of the bench top, similar to snapping a bit of wood. Your cut should line up just over the edge. Use a positive action and it should break cleanly. If in doubt take it to a glazier who will no doubt cut it for next to nothing. I must say, 6mm is pretty heavy duty for lids though. I use to be a glazier so i hope this helps.
mad-n-angry
mate score the glass as you normally do for any glass cut flip the glass over and put it on a slight angle above the table your using and close your fist and hit it with the soft part of the close fist sounds harsh but not really a firm whack on or near the score line if your having troubles doing it i can make a video tomorrow and email it to you i do it all the time the other option pending the type of cutter you have is to tap the unscored side of the glass with your cutter it will crack then use a pair of pliers to break it off
cichlidwife
make sure clean with accetone or similiar..... mark your points, place your striaght edge on your marks and hold your cutter like a pencill and cut in 1 motion... same pressure same score............., can usually break between thumb and fore finger, with a snap if held over a bench................. mike
