Some pics of the retired legend :)

Recommended Posts

Been a long long time since I updated pics of Eric, who most of you know is the father of all the EBJD I produced back in the day. This fish is what got me really into the hobby in the first place. I bought him at 3cms for a bday pressie, which at the time was a fortune for me ($150 for a fish! OMG). After receiving many disheartening comments calling him a mutant and abomination (I was young at the time), he went on to grow into one of the most marvelous specimens I've ever seen. His fiery female did bite his entire lip off, as well as shredding all his fins (why they are so strange after growing back). He is now paired with a much more sedate female, and is still spawning but no fry are being raised.

I will be the first to admit the EBJD gene throws a number of genetic errors along with it, I liken it to the jaguar gene in snake genetics, but effecting the physical rather than the neurological. Regardless, he is a gorgeous fish and functions extremely well, and is living a happy life in retirement. I will never sell this little dude, he has become like a child to me.

After my little male macrostoma went to his new home this-morning all the plants were transfered to his tank, and he is loving it! Came out and had a little jiggy with his girl, letting me get some great pics. Enjoy!

and she is still at it, lol, her current b/f is slowly recovering, but he will be scared for life, :) but at least he will live to spawn with her again, but i won't leave him there this time,

Eric is a stunner, and if you ever want to drop some of his fry off i'd be happy to try and raise them for you, :)

She is a crazy cow I tell ya! Great producer but a PITA to keep peacefully lol. You can see the damage she did to him!

If you are ever keen to try and raise a spawn of theirs you are most welcome Steve, if you want to pick them up that is :P. I am unsure if he is still fertile, as most of his current spawns have fungussed. Then again I haven't put in any effort to stop them fungussing. You never know :)

WOW looks great for a 5 year old, cant wait to my 2 boys and 2 girls get to that size and age

He peaked in size about a year or so ago, and has barely grown since then. I think it's just the EBJD stunting plus older age, but he is a happy boy so I'm not complaining! Good display size.

He is a nice boy, Def one of my favourite fish, I always wanted to have a full grown one by itself in a display but gave up trying to after 5 got the old internal parasites and 1 got to about 3 inches and went blind. Wish they had nice strong genes.

I tell ya mate it's an absolute bugger to raise them to adulthood! He was my only one out of dozens from many different lines I raised. The death rate on the bubs can be crippling too. But I have to say, when you can raise a nice one to adulthood it's a real prize to have won :)

Awesome guy Sarah...old battler :) and the ex sounds like an ice queen...

ooooooh yes thats a good name for her. Still trying to kill/maul as we speak. I almost lost Eric a cpl of times from her beating him. I will never forget when I saw his entire top jaw come off its hinges and float into the tank.. Lucky he can still eat fine, looks a bit funny but haha

lol, thinking about putting a different male with her, a possible split, not sure he would survive an attack as he is smaller, but maybe he will stand up to her, :)

I would be putting the meanest biggest split gene you can find! Just somethink bulky that can handle her. Let them spawn and seperate as soon as possible. She will produce huge numbers though so if you are willing to cope with her antics she will reward you for it.
