wayne6442
I am thinking about using OZONE to treat my change over water before storing it for a couple of days before use. The generator I have has a capacity of 200-300 mg/hr. I did a pilot test last night with 10 liters of fresh water from my drinking water tanks( I live on a Houseboat) I ran the machine for 6 hours. the water looks sparkling clean and PH when I started was 7.8 today 5.4. ANY IDEAS? PS water will be used in my shrimp tanks.
frinkie
i vote no ozone's toxic to you wait you live on a houseboat? man thats awesome
Rod
My understanding is ozone breaks down any organic waste.....but there maybe some undesirable by products.....best to run a water through activated carbon after ozone treatment then it will be great! Yes ozone is toxic....but it soon reacts with whatever it touches...so it's ok as long as you dont stick the ozone direct in your mouth....it shouldnt do any damage I got an ozone generator very cheaply from China (ebay).....ran out of puff after a couple of weeks....the air pump works but I dont believe it generates ozone anymore they dont last long in humid conditions apparently....(any fish room!) The Tech Den
From what I have been advised is that when using ozone then you use a airstone or similar and run for 24hr before using the water in your tanks. If you need to use it sooner than it is suggested that you run it through a carbon filter.
wayne6442
Thanks guys,I have had my current OZONE generator for a number of years,I actually purchasede it to use for water clarity when I was breeding natives eons ago. I am fairly happy about using it to treat my replacement water, and yes I do strain it through active carbon before storing it for use at a later date. My boat has a water storage capacity of 3000 ltrs and i refill about every three weeks from the normal domestic supply, however i am a little cautious about any nasties lurking in the stored water. I have some domestic filtering in place for normal use.OK for humans but iffy for crs/cbs. nice to get others feedback. Thanks
