bristlenosejohn
Gday all, Well what a shocker of a day, I sold some fish today and had thought this was a great chance to re scape one of my display tanks. When I lefted out all plants and DW I was shocked to my core to see one of my rares L 's dead in the corner and then to top it off there where another 3 vampires dead and covered in substrate. So to say the wind was taken out of me was a under statement and had to try and keep composure as kids where near by and also had the guy who was picking up other fish there too. I did all the usual tests and everything came back spot on (near too) and even disected fish to find "anything" and nothing out of the ordernary showed up. there where other L's in the tank and they are fine and saved 1 vamp and 3 201's but this still does not seem to fix the pain of loosing any fish let alone ones that I have raised from fry for so dam long and to not know WHY... I guess this is just 1 up for nature and 1 loss for the hobbiest again. Thanks for listening to my rant Cheers John

bristlenosejohn
sorry to hear mate its heart breaking to find your fish dead, even more so not knowing why. were they very big? all fish where breeding size and where about to come out of "resting tank" into there breeding tanks, so yeah a bit of blow to the back pocket however even a larger blow that I lost fish with no answers. But as we are all aware that what we try to do in a "micro" environmet to replicate what nature perfected for eions well these things do happen but never the less it always feels like a huge kick in the guts when it does. Thank you all for your kind thoughts Regards John

Ashleigh_g
did you move the substrate much / what substrate are you using?. I've heard if you have ada soil, moving it around a lot can cause an anmonia spike. Also heard moving the substrate can cause the bad gasses that have been locked and built up in the soil to come up. sorry for you loss mate. DeadFishFloating
brutal. I dunno if theres a person on this thread that hasnt lost cool fish before that they had become attached to. But these were some special fish you had put a lot of time into. Always hard when they are snatched away in an instant. Take it easy man, hopefully you shall get some good spawns to even everything out.

Brengun
Sorry for your loss. Is it possible they ran out of oxygen in the dead of nite or ate some bad-off frozen food? Be careful with the feeding for a while and watch them. If it makes you feel any better I have over the years lost 35% of all plecos I have purchased. Most of them were zebs and queen arabesque though. Don't think I have ever lost a L201 and only lost a little 3cm vampire once. They are usually quite hardy. They got to be to live in my tanks lol. Remedy to lost fish, get scheming and go buy some more. Makes me feel better.

bristlenosejohn
Thank you all for your kind words and thoughts and yes it is always the bad when we loose any fish that has some kind of attachment, But as I said it always a good reminder that no matter how much we think we know there is always more too learn and to realise that somethings just happen and this is more so relivent in our hobby/ industry, as we are trying to replicate millions of years of experience into a little tinny space with the same amount of knowledge. Cheers again all John
woodie03
Gee mate, you're the bn king. If they're dropping like flies in your tank, what hope is there for the rest of us. Mate I am sorry. I know how you feel. I might not have fish as rare but fish are fish to me and if they're in my tank, I care for all fish the same. No matter if they're common bn or the most expensive L number.
