Keegan013
Hey guys I have read up a little bit about the basics but want to know whats best in our country. Ph wise etc... I have a 2x2x40cm High that I would like to setup with a nautilus 800 cannister, And sponge filters. Would this be good? Obviously with some sort of prefilter for the intake. Just basically want to know what everyone does, Substrate? Chlorinated tap water? Fan infront of tanks to keep temps low? I dont want a chiller so low tech is the go. The basic info from local keepers/breeders would be great! I want to start with maybe 20 a grade CRS and see what comes of it..
gyung
mate everything sounds great. just make sure you use a sponge for the cannister intake so babies don't get sucked in. keep water parameters consistent and they should be fine. also, a rule of thumb is to ensure the best filtration possible just in case as crs are sensitive. The best stats are ph 6.5-7.0 and a gh of 4. queensland water is a little high so the best way if either to use buffering soils like benibachi or up aqua shrimp sand. indian almond leaves are a great food that lower ph as well and do great things for the water winter is now coming in so you won't need a chiller for 6 months. how about putting your tank in a air conditioned rom? that would help too! Pickle n cheese
Over summer I have been using computer fans and they normally keep the water about 4-5 degree cooler, but I have them on a timer to shut off at night so it doesn't get to cold, mine usually sits around 23-24, but the only problem is that the water evaporates quite fast Edited March 21, 2012 by Pickle n cheese Spelling
quantum8
has anyone on here tried a DIY peltier cooler? Looks like a great alternative to a full blown chiller
