Matmatmat
Not too sure what to do about this.. I took the strainer off a canister to clean it in a rush as I had to go to work as it was blocked up with gunk. One of the big ranchu got his head stick to it and now has a big dark raspberry on the side of his head. I put some salt in the tank and am doing a water change.. What else should I do? Should I sepperate him in a hospital talk? or should I leave him with his mates?

goldenswimmers
looks like he tore the head growth("wen")...up to you mate..can play safe and avoid any chance of infection by putting him in a seperate tank...same water and some diluted anti fungal..as you know these guys let the body waste flow thats all ...maybe give it a couple of days first to see how it starts healing and hopefully no need....or just chuck a little anti fungal in now to be safe.....lucky it was the head growth...this stuff is pretty much extra tissue growth on the head so nothing vital...reckon he'll be fine Edited May 3, 2012 by goldenswimmers
bristlenosejohn
If it has a torn and not too close to gills than a great treatment IMO is to use betadine (liquid only), to do this simply pat dry the area and then apply small amount of betadine onto a cotton bud (make sure it is not dripping) then swab the area, then pat dry again (only use clean dry cloths) and then place in quarentine tank for a few hrs and then back into the tank.. I have done this many times over the years for L numbers, bala sharks, loaches, koi and many more spieces of fish. Biggest issue is make sure not to clos to gills as this can cause issues but in saying this I have done a treatment on the outside of a gill cover and no issues. I hope this helps Cheers John

fancygoldfish
dont stress to much, ive done a similar thing with a garden hose. within 2-3days the edges will go black then it will get smaller before disappearing. i used a chemical i got from lfs and an ear bud applied it directly on to the area then put him back in the tank. i did it daily and he was fine. also dont be surprised if the area when it recovers goes a light silver colour, it will eventually go back to normal.
