Im kinda a nooby in the pond world... Only had one for a few months. But I must say, the growth and color that comes with ponds is awesome! Seems like a combo of weird bugs, algae, as much duckweed as they can eat, actual sunlight and well.. Whatever else decides to grow and fall in :) what are your thoughts?

Couldnt agree more mate....the freedom and the elements I thinks makes the guys grow to their full potential...my personal opinion but I think the fact they get sunlight and the dusk, dawn(timed daylight hours etc) are major factors in making the guys their best along with extra feeds such as insects and greens....some things to watch though..sticks and randoms that can fall in....I had ranchu in ponds and some would get scar type tissue on their mouths from all the grazing on the bottom and having to deal with the rough matter...still healthy just not "aesthetically" pleasing...awesome for growing out youngstas...they will easily hammer their "inside" counterparts over the same period of time with growth etc....I think the natural "elements" super size them and just getting the sunlight (it also "feeds" the water which they're living in).....

I would like to get a pond but I live in a small apartment with lots of foster kittens, we have a deck but it's kept in the dark almost all day... :-( I asked Daniel if we move can we get a nice outdoor pond and he said yes :-) But for now I am pond-less.

:) my guys love the outdoors, just moved mine from a 500lt bunnings tub into a ibc, but i put a shade cloth cover on as their new home is under a tree, branches fall onto it and end up on the ground, but its high enough for us to go under and sunlight to get in, win win....... now to set up the tub again for our little new guys, :)

It doesn't have to be massive :) buntings sells tubs that are around 250-300 lt for around $50-60.. And you defiantly don't want full sun for too long anyway! Chuck some duckweed and foxtail in with a sponge or two and your away :) the difference you will see to that of tank lept ones will amaze you!

im going to have to get some ponds, personally im looking for the plastic blue tubs that all the breeders use oversea's for the broodstock. i cant ever seem to find them

I was keen for that too, but settled for black.

thats funny mate, i was thinking on the way home today that you need 3 or 4 ibc set up in your fish room, down one side, could easily plumb them into 1 sump, might not be exactly a pond, but be great for your breeders and growing out fry,

come to think about it, i'm going to look at doing the same thing, even if its only for raising bn fry and my american fry, :)
