tangles
Ok got some royal whiptail eggs in the tumbler and they are starting to hatch.Have been reading lots of info on the web and so far have bought a fry saver like brenguns from matthew at the fish cave. And i bought some spiralina powder and some agar agar to make some frozen food for the fry.I also have some rockes out in the sun in a bucket to try and get some algae going for them to graze on. Just a Q for brengun if you read this is how do you go about making the frozen spialina food as am not sure on the mix i should be using. And any other info i should know regarding raising would be great. Cheers Leigh
mines bigger
The mix really depends on the number of fry, just make a small Amount and see how much the fry eat, try the viformo too...
Brengun
First up they are going to hang on the sides and not come down to eat. They can starve sitting up there and they do. Blanch a bit of lettuce and throw that in to sit on. If you have some dried indian almond leaves, toss a bit in to float and eventually sink. First couple days I actually do a tiny pinch of pure spirulina powder in several times a day. It swirls around and catches on the sides of the container where the whip fry are sitting and all of a sudden its like a light bulb goes on in their heads and they start sucking all along the sides for the food. Oh btw if you don't want the fry nosediving straight into the sponge at the end of the frysaver and wriggling out, fold a bit of synthetic fine continuous curtaining around that sponge. Recipe for spirulina powder and agar agar powder. Mix the agar 2 tablespoons to 500ml of hot water. I don't use boiling as I don't want to kill the goodies in the agar. Once thats mixed, stir in the spirulina powder a bit at a time. Probably about 2 tablespoons until it starts getting fairly firm and you can't add any more. Then get a gladlock bag, spoon it all in, seal it leaving just a corner open for air to escape and smooth the mix all around the quite large glad bag until its all thinned out and level. Seal the corner and pop it in the freezer. To serve, snap off bits and place in the saver for the fry.
