jubes
Hi all. Got 3 festae last night that I want to grow up in a 6 x 2. Ideally I will take it down to just a pair as these are a nice fish and would be even better to have a go at breeding some. What do people use for structure in their tanks? Are rocks and gravel on there own best? How do they go with Anubias? Do they like wood? Like logs etc. any advice would be wonderful. Thanks kris. MRNOS
Hmm be prepared for great looking fish, that cause all out war, frustration, severe injuries to each other and just general stress and mayhem......other than that enjoy!
MRNOS
But really just make sure there's plenty of hidey holes in the tank, and be careful with adding tank mates
jubes
haha. Well I told the girlfriend that there will be no other fish with these and she is like well i dont want them in there. But they will be too big for any other tank I have lol. At the moment they are only small. How fast do they grow?
MRNOS
They're pretty average for growth, just depends on food and water conditions, but as an example my 2cm fry from 3-4weeks ago are now around 5 maybe 6 cm, just keep the water healthy and they'll be fine. goneself
Mate, I'd put their growth at slow- certainly slower than polleni, saum, devils, jags, etc etc. They also don't seem to be as destructive as many big yanks, so you'll probably be ok to put in some grafted anubias. Should be ok to have a group of decent sized silver dollars and a plec in there with them, maybe some raph cats, if you're looking to add some interest to the tank...of course, they'll have to be sold on when they near adult size. Make sure there are a few hiding spots- hollow logs, caves, etc, as they will fight. And if you get a pair, they will fight more. Oh and lids..never forget the lids. jubes
Yeah for sure. Big school of silver dollars are a good Idea as I wouldn't care if they flogged them up lol. Know I just got to get some lids and logs and rocks for them. Hopefully get the tank looking good.
tangles
If you put silver dollars in there dont bother with the plants. They will shred them in no time flat. There are some nice plastic plants you can get now that look pretty good.

tangles
No worries mate i dont usually comment on threads like that but i had had quite a few beers as you prob could tell as i couldnt even get the spelling right.Another trick with aggressive fish is to put a few different size pvc pipes in there for the smaller fish to hide.I bury these under rocks and driftwood as they are quite ugly
