chris71
hi all, just looking for some info on having driftwood in a tank with malawians.the tank is a 5x2x2,has sand as a substrate,35kg of dead coral(rocks with nice tunnels, crevices and caves)have a few yellows, cobalts, dolphins, peacocks(all between 4-7cms)2goldspot plecos,1 albino sailfin pleco, and some bn(about 10)ranging from 3cm to 12cm.filtration consists of 2200lph canister,1800lph internal.4foot bubble curtain and 300w jaeger heater.just getting back into the hobby after spending 9 years away from it.only ever kept african cichlids, and have never had a tank with driftwood.but, after seeing some awesome pictures of tanks with amazing pieces of driftwood, want some advice on wether or not it is ok to put some in this environment.i am aware of the woods ph lowering qualities, and the africans ph requirements, but is there a way ?any feedback would be great.thanks Chris:esmile:
tutters187
You can have wood, it would be good for your plecos. It may discolour your water a little by the tannins it leaches but with frequent water changes and filtration mentioned shouldn't be a problem. Or some Seachem Clarity or similar to clear it up. Supercobwe
Depend on what type of driftwood you use, some of them doesn't leak tannins anymore once it been in the water for a period of time.
