I'm gutting my 5ft tank to turn it into home for my 2 ryukins (and will add a few fancy buddies later)

Can fancies cope with lots of water movement? Tank currently has a Fluval 405 on it but i was thinking of adding a 2nd canister (Ehiem 2224 i think it is), would that be too much. Or should i just add some internals for a bit of added movement?

I plan to have some wood with Anubias and Java fern. Maybe some fake (depends how it comes up).

Some of the other guys may have a better description, But I got for two canisters like eheims for the slower flow rate and some bio sponges so there is heaps of filtration but not a lot of water movement.... As the more calm the water the more likely you are to get that chunky shape :) as if they swim against the current too much it seems to strengthen the tail? and elongate the fish? Not too sure on the science behind it? But that's the way I go anyway. HTH

it depends on the breed ryukins are strong swimmers so you should have no trouble. i have a 5 x 2 x 2 and i run 2200lt/hr the fish have no trouble with that. the fish will make a bit of mess all goldfish do, so a little stronger current will help to draw it up to the outlet ( less maintenance for you)

Thanx guys

1 of the ryukins is an excellent swimmer, the other has issues i think...but for the most part she swims normalish lol

I was thinking of adding a black moor and the one that look like a golf ball and the a lionhead i think they are called for starters... they all seem to swim fairly well.

Yes this is why i was thinking of putting the 2nd canister on the tank

If you have a decent sized tank(and 5ft is prettty decent) the guys should always have a part of the tank they can "chill" in...in other words escape the current...some fish handle it..some don't really like it and your "golfball" guy(Im guessing hes a pearlscale :)) & the lionhead would have the hardest time out of the guys...but should be no probs and they will find a spot to avoid any current they find too heavy...just dont feed into the current as the stronger swimmers will naturally swoop on the food while the others are struggling to keep up :)

*LOL* yes pearlscale thats the one :D

I'm thinking i will just add an internal for just that bit extra movement. The Eheim i have churns a 4ft, i think it might be a bit much for them, especially at feeding time

The 2 Ryukins are loving the bigger tank, much more active and fully exploring the whole thing! The tank is near my ccomputer so i get to watch them fairly often :D
