digaroo
If any body can help me in raising my Brochis corys . Out of a spawn I usually get about two hundred eggs to start with. I transfer them into another tank to hang in the mop heads to hatch. I feed them micro worm and newly hatched brine shrimp. The problem I seem to be having is when there about 5mls long. I seem to be loosing them. I do small water changes every couple of days. Is there a secrete in raising them. The last batch I ended up with ten. Must be something Im not doing right. Can any one advise me me what Im doing wrong.
fancygoldfish
are the water parameters the same as the parents tank. also when you say small water changes how big? young fish are extremely vulnerable to ammonia and nitrites/nitrates, is the tank you putting them in well cycled. goneself
If you have been successful getting them to 5mm, you must be doing something right- getting them hatched and grown to that size the hard bit. In nature the cories tend to stay hidden under rocks/leaves with all the decaying leaf litter and crud when they're at that tiny free swimming stage, so with cories I'd keep water changes to a minimum, if you do them at all. Assuming you use a properly cycled sponge filter in the fry tank,I'd just have a handful of cherries in with the babies and forget frequent water changes. Monitor the water fairly closely so you know what's going on, but at that size water changes can do more harm than good.

digaroo
The water changes I do are very small, About a liter of water every second day. I basically use rain water in all my tanks., very little town water. And I filter it too. The tank I have them in at the moment is two foot. with only gravel in the bottom and plastic plants. Maybe I should put some leaf matter in the bottom so they can hide .
Mutli
have you tried just let them be and less water changes.. like 1 a week maybe?
KillieOrCory
Digaroo, how are you going with these? I have had two large spawns recently and have about 80 to 100 25mm juvies to show for it. Which is actually probably less than 50% of the hatched fry making it this far. Is this a good enough ratio for Brochis splendens? Cheers, Serkan
aquaholic99
I suspect your overfeeding and have a parasitic protozoa or hydra problem. Fish at 5mm are quite big and should have no problems. Are you water changing from an existing tank just to be safe?
Braddo
Knowing Mackay pretty well I wouldnt be using rain water there. Theey have a major airport and the planes fly over pretty much all of it, they also dump there fuel before coming in to land. This leaves a residue on the rooves. I would get yourself some superchlor from tech den. Also I think leaves woiuld soften the water too much and drop the calcium levels which would lead to deformities in the young fish hth.
