itank
Ok so i have had the thought for a long time to line breed some guppies and endlers. I want to build something to house them and be able to quickly and efficiently do all water changes and such. i would like to keep each enclosure small but not small enough to be cruel or have any issues. I have never looked into line breeding so im not too sure what i can have in the way of enclosures. What i guess i am getting at is do i house the male on his own and the females alone or do i put a trio in a tank let them go then separate them out when the females start to show. The birthing tank is a small problem as well as i think it would be best to see the fish instead of having them hiding in a forest of plants. Filtration and heating will also be a slight issue as i would like to only use 1 set for everything if i can. So tell me guys whats your ideal breeding setup I'm gonna start looking at it soon. talarmasi
multi tiered stand of 2ft tanks all plumbed to a sump (filtration and heating combined). Many ways to go really and depends mostly on how many different lines your keeping, ideally you want a 2ft for the trio, 2 x 2ft for fry (to split male/female) 2-4ft as growout. But then you could also have trio per tank, 1 2ft for each line of fry, then say 2x 4fts to house all lines split male/female for growout (largely depends if you can tell difference in each female line... alot of girls are plain) As for not using plants but having places for fry to hide plastic grass mats on bottom is one suggestion, another could be dividers in tank that fry can escape the parents. itank
ricksfish i would love to see your tank when its ready. I was thinking something like a long tank prolly 3 or 4 feet but only 10cms wide and have it broken up into like 8 or so individual mini tanks and then have a small hatchery/grow out tank underneath then back into a sump. might google sketch up it and then see what you guys think will be a little while yet have another few things on the go at the moment.
