Benno22
I've kept a few Americans in the last couple of years and from my experience you can't go past the Green Terror (Gold&White Saum) when it comes to character. I've kept a few of these guys and never once have I had them hiding continuously or being spooked. My question is which American cichlids (Apart from dwarfs) don't hide or get spooked easily? Which species has the most character and won't be spooked when I come into the room? Ben.
liss05
Earth eaters are always out and about going through sand I love watching my lucos and they are always very happy to see me But at the end of the day I think it depends on how much people are around the tanks and the fish get use to it my earth eater tank is in our lounge room we have breeding fish in our rack system down stairs and lately they have become very skittish and scare easily I think it's from us not being in the room enough? goneself
Oscars. I know they don't get much love, but oscars have personality plus- they're all real individuals. Red devils, and trimacs are up there too..in fact, most of the 'big' americans get very interactive as they get older.
fish addiction
Any big American kept by itself will gain a personality especially when you go near the tank.... These fish become very territorial as adults and make awesome pets. Oscars would be up there with the best of em and also most of the vieja spp. Will do so aswel.... But real personality in my opinion comes from a giant gourami. These fish are the most interactive pets in our hobby.... They just need a bigger tank

Azedenkae
This is probably because this is my favourite cichlid, but I reckon the green texas. They're not afraid of anything. Or at least mine isn't. For comparison, I threw it in with a super aggressive convict, which happens to be larger than the green texas and she beats the **** out of the convict lol. Never seen a convict try to jump out of a tank before, until I tried that.

CrayonBox
i've seen jags just decide that over night they dont like there tank mates any more. But not all of them just a very unlucky few.
goneself
Jags are like having a big samoan bouncer in your tank. Most of the time they just hang around out the back, not doing too much, but then, one day, someone gets lippy...and gets 'taken care of'.
