New species of arowana!

Recommended Posts

Hey exotic-fish fanatics

Just found this article and thought you guys would be interested. A new species of arowana has been 'recorded' for the first time, collected somewhere in Thailand. It has some awesome patterning to it, similar to striation seen on discus fish.

Imagine what the asian breeders will be able to produce in the future...

They have been around for ages. A variety of asian. There are actually two variations, but I would have to get out my Arowana book to get the names. One has more intense/intricate scribbles than the other. They are just starting to cross them into other colours.

Aren't they called "Scleropages inscriptus" or something like that?

Looks like it. Going back and reading the article I think they meant it's a new species as it has now been formally described (S. inscriptus) rather than being newly discovered.

They'll look nice in a bright red colour :)

My thoughts exactly haha

Anyhow guys, looks like it may not been a newly discovered species (as stated in article) but nevertheless, a very interesting fish. Hopefully they'll become available to us in the near future :)
