The coming of the Chu-da...

Recommended Posts

My little guys that are bred from ranchu parents but have fully formed dorsal fins....

some call them short tailed orandas...but Im calling mine Chu-Da...they are oranda but from ranchu parents and they have a ranchu body shape...smaller tails, chunkier heads and body shape and the headgrowth will cover the entire face....making for a sexy new fish....

breeding ranchu...you will always be culling alot of your fry(partly formed dorsal fins, badly shaped back curves etc) ...and on rare occassions you get fry with fully formed dorsal fins...pretty much a ranchu with a top fin...this is why "technically" speaking they are orandas but the fact they come from ranchu parents means they have a completely different look/make up to them....they look like little "punk" goldfish...mohawk fins n all! :) maybe I should call them punkchu :)

Nice stuff mate...dont know how much your feeding him(hes obviously healthy :)) but you could even up it more I reckon..to get more headgrowth(lionhead pellets and peas/duckweed to balance out) and add more stockiness to him....hes looking good and sizing up nicely.. :) hes only about 5 months old mate so hes growing out nicely

good job :)

Yeah I've been kinda wondering about how big he is versus his head size.. Have definately backed off the foods and basing it more on vege and a few lion head pellets.. Partly to even him up and partly to help his digestion through the colder months. I'm learning as I go as its a different world grooming them, different to what I'm used to anyway :)

I would chunk him up and let the headgrowth really kick in(maybe a few feeds a day)...put em on the 'roids ha ha :)

Now he's in the pond..he'll be swimming alot more(as you can see in his body elongating) and so using up more energy..so you can definitely up the food intake..he'll just supersize on you..which is exactly what you want ;)

some nice goldys there finn, i like the black ranchu.

wouldnt that barrel be two deep for ranchu?

Thanks Lachie, yeah, the black Ranchu would probably have to be my favourite!

Nahh, the barrel is fine, they just chill around the top, the black moor, he goes down deep..

might want to look at something with more surface area in the future though finn if you want to really get some good size on your ranchu(they like the room not the depth) and any extra depth in swimming will give them a different "look"/body shape when older...reckon ryukins and orandas would do ok in this Lachlan.. ;)
