Alright, so, I just got a new tank, and, this is a big step for me, but, I THINK I WANT GOLDFISH!

Like, I have been looking around, and the really awesome ones just intrigue me!

So anyway, I just thought I'd let y'all know, I've been into Americans for so long now and I think it's time for a bit of a change.

Yeah, I have spoken to Goldenswimmer a few times, he's a good bloke and I have been meaning to get some of his goldies for a while, only problem has been transport.

I've been looking at some Goldfish in some lfs and they are mostly **** quality or just commets..

What kind of growth rate do these fancy guys have?

Thats an adult Chu-da(yeah I know its my own name I made up) but seriously they call these guys short tailed orandas(pfft!)...that genetic make up is straight from a ranchu...but with a dorsal fin...thats why Im just going to keep any I breed and if people are interested(and it seems these guys create a bit of notice)I'll look at selling a few....they aren't that common as they are throwbacks from ranchu parents

These fancy guys grow based on food supplied, housing conditions etc...like most fish.......If you want the best growth...you cant go past a pond as it supplies more room and the natural conditions to maximise growth..."green" feed on permanent supply, bonus protein supplements(insects, etc),sunlight and the correct light cycle(not room lights suddenly turned off and on)...alot of the beautiful big goldfish you seen are actually kept in ponds and then placed in aquariums for "photo sessions/holding etc"....you can raise in aquariums and the bigger the tank the better and I'd really recommend duck weed, vegetation and either

a)regular water changes(In japan some replace as much as 50% water every second day...obviously from aged water kept in a completey seperate pond etc)

b)heavy filtration without heavy current..fancies are weaker swimmers in general than their counterparts as they are genetically more modified so further down away from their natural wild form...

If they turn into anything like that picture, they'll be DA BOMB.

Seriously, I can see ol' bottom left there turning into a rather nice specimen!

Have a look too Finn at the top fin of the fish in the picture you have put up too...very short...like the tail too...headgrowth is covering the entire face...

and the general body shape is ranchu...

i think we have some of these, they are cool,

pretty sure you do too mate(you should be able to picke them out...much chunkier in body than the "regular" dorsal finned guys)...bulk em up and get them looking like that pic :) I reckon these guys would be popular if people could get them...they are like goldfish "tanks"....

bit of both...good genetics in the parents covers it mostly(its one of the traits you look for in your breeders too)...but some get more headgrowth than others and even diet and enviroment affect it...if you see it when they are young...it will grow out nicely and you can trigger it with bloodworms and other high protein foods(hikari lionhead aims at increasing headgrowth too and from my experience it does work too)...but make sure to balance with lots of greenery(peas/duckweed)if feeding proteins
