Inkozana
I have a new fish! It doesn't have a name yet, and I don't know if it is a boy or a girl because I can't see any dots.

Inkozana
Yeah, it has one black eye and one regular eye. I thought you only got that with shubunkin.
goldenswimmers
Yeah, it has one black eye and one regular eye. I thought you only got that with shubunkin. genetics...means there are strong "mixed" colour genes in place...good news for your fishes colour pattern...should be pretty stable...its pretty common with calicos... Inkozana
Does it mean it is a mutant fish? It is a pretty cool thing, it eats lots of elodea and loves daphnia.
goldenswimmers
ha ha...nup not a mutant...just a really mixed up colour base
fancygoldfish
great looking fish mate, how big is he/she
Inkozana
It is about 6cm big, I think it might have an odd swim bladder, when it is resting it sits up in the elodea just below the surface.. but when it wants to eat or move around it seems to have no problem. It only sits up at the top every so often.
goldenswimmers
hope no issues Inkozana.....did you watch your fish for awhile before you selected it?...cute is ok...but cute with future issues is a sad ending....hope he/she doesnt have potential swim bladder issues...I look for the best fish first by body shape, colours etc but then I also do as good a health check as possible by watching how they swim...how active they are and wether they have any potential flaws/issues that could pop up in the future....I know I sound a bit over the top but I find especially with goldfish you have to be really selective...there is no real quality standard for these guys here....and there is alot more duds than gems getting around... Inkozana
I did look at the fish in the tank for a long time, there was one that had obvious swim bladder issues because he was kept up at the surface like a balloon floating in the sky.. I watched how he fed and he didn't seem to be doing much floating at the top, or having issues staying upright. If it turns out he has issues that I cannot fix, it'll be the last time I buy ranchu through a pet store.
