steve6610
we have a sump thats being used as a snail tank, its 4ft x 1ftw x 18"h, the question is, i'm setting up a couple racks, i have a 10,000lph sump pump, i'll be setting up 14 x 2ft x 1ft x 1ft tanks, 8 x 2ft x 18" x 16" tanks, and 2 x 4ft x 18" x 18" tanks on the racks, i'm thinking the sump will be to small, i think all up the tanks and sump will hold about 2200lts any thoughts............ cram
I would aim for about (at least) 10% of the system volume in your sump, but bigger is better. so around >220L - your tank is only 160L. You have 2 considerations: 1. filtration volume (how much media it will need to hold to effectively deal with nutrient load in your system - depends on media type) and contact time (turnover rate in the sump) 2. overflow water (in case of power outage). MRNOS
I'd be running something like a 4/18/18 sump, pump size is good, I'm running 1 4/18/18 on my fry tanks 2000lts roughly, and will hopefully be running a 4/18/2ft sump on my breeder tanks, similar litres. steve6610
thanks cram and mrnos, sounds about what i was thinking, oh well, it makes an awesome apple snail tank anyway, my other system is around 2600lts, i'm running a 10,000lph pump and use 2 x 200lt blue drums, it works great, 1 is full of medium the other has the pump in it, i'd do the same but due to position the blue drums would be to high, looks like i need to have another think............. just trying to use what i have, rather then have to buy something else........ beencees
Yeah Bristlenose can be quite addictive. Took me years to finally bring myself to part with all my breeders although i still have one tank full of males. Deliberately sold all the females as every time they spawned it was just another excuse to keep them longer. Oh, and of course still have L144's. Good luck with it all
